12 Credit Hours

This unique clinical presentation/ live surgery/ hands-on course will focus on alveolar defects seen immediately following tooth removal with emphasis on evaluation, classification, and treatment guidelines. Both esthetic and nonesthetic zone sites will be covered. Parameters to be assessed include gingival biotype, buccal plate status, number of bony walls affected, and soft tissue status.

Clinical and CBCT based diagnostic and treatment protocols will be featured that include evaluation, timing, and sequence of extraction site reconstruction for both soft and hard tissue grafting. Graft materials, bioactive modifiers and the use of PTFE membranes, connective tissue grafts and free gingival grafts will be presented in a step by step protocol.

Live surgery will include both esthetic and nonesthetic zone cases. The hands-on segment will include models for sequential protocols of extraction site management including the application of particulate mineralized allograft, PTFE membranes, connective tissue grafts and free gingival grafts..

Course Objectives:

At the completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand the indications for both hard and soft tissue grafting of immediate post extraction sites for implant reconstruction in both esthetic and nonesthetic zone sites.
  2. Evaluate and treatment plan cases requiring tooth extraction and grafting for implant reconstruction.
  3. Understand step by step protocols for hard tissue extraction site management for implant reconstruction.
  4. Understand step by step protocols for soft tissue extraction site management for implant reconstruction.
