Professor Howard Gluckman, BDS, MChD (Cum Laude), PhD (Summa Cum Laude), is a globally recognised leader in implant dentistry and periodontics. With nearly 30 years of clinical, academic, and surgical experience, he is known for pioneering advancements in partial extraction therapy, autogenous bone grafting, and soft tissue management. Prof. Gluckman completed his dental training at the University of the Witwatersrand and went on to obtain his MChD in Oral Medicine and Periodontics from the University of Stellenbosch, graduating Cum Laude. He later achieved a PhD from the University of Szeged in Hungary, with his dissertation titled “Partial Extraction Therapy: Past, Present and Future,” earning the distinction of Summa Cum Laude. He is the Co-Founder and Clinical Director of the Implant & Aesthetic Academy (IAA) in Cape Town and London, a postgraduate training institute that has educated thousands of clinicians in advanced implantology. Prof. Gluckman also holds academic appointments as an Adjunct Professor at the University of the Western Cape and Visiting Professor at the University of Sarajevo. A respected researcher and author, Prof. Gluckman has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and international textbooks. He sits on multiple editorial boards and serves on the scientific board of DentalXP. His clinical focus lies in immediate implant placement, soft tissue aesthetics, autogenous bone augmentation—including the palatal bone block technique—and advanced applications of partial extraction therapy, such as socket shield and pontic shield protocols. Prof. Gluckman is a sought-after international speaker and educator, and was honoured with the 2024 DentalXP Morton Amsterdam Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to education and innovation in implant dentistry.
