Dr. Michael Pikos, originally from Campbell, Ohio, graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University, where he earned his dental degree with honors. He completed his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Pikos is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Board of Oral Implantology, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. His accolades include the Aaron Gershkoff Memorial Award (2006), the Saul Schluger Memorial Award (2015), and the Carl E. Misch Advanced Dental Implant Studies Education Award (2017).
Dr. Pikos is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at both The Ohio State University and Nova Southeastern University, while also teaching at the University of Florida, Aristotle University in Greece, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He serves on editorial boards for journals such as Implant Dentistry and Inside Dentistry.
An early pioneer of Cone Beam CT technology, Dr. Pikos has integrated advanced imaging and interactive CT in implant-based oral rehabilitation. Since 1983, he has placed over 35,000 implants, with a focus on complex hard and soft tissue procedures, foundational prosthetic principles, and biomechanics.
The author of Bone Augmentation in Implant Dentistry, Dr. Pikos is a recognized speaker in dental implants, presenting globally for organizations such as the American Academy of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
As the founder and CEO of the Pikos Institute, he has trained over 6,500 professionals from the U.S. and 67 countries in advanced bone and soft tissue grafting and full-arch reconstruction. Dr. Pikos maintains a private practice dedicated to implant surgery in Trinity, Florida.
Moderated by Dr. Hussein S. Basma
Dr. Hussein S. Basma received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Damascus University in 2009 through a full scholarship. He completed a residency in Prosthodontics at Lebanese University and earned a Certificate in Periodontology and a Master of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Basma lectures nationally and internationally on periodontology and dental implants and is a recognized social media influencer in dentistry. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontology at UAB, where his research and teaching focus on bone augmentation, full-arch rehabilitation, multidisciplinary care, and technological integration.
